Doing It Right Women’s Initiative

Overview

The Doing It Right Women’s Initiative was created by Link Strategies to give women across Canada a space to engage with politics and public policy through the lens of shared values, real-world issues, and respectful dialogue.

We provide a strategic on-ramp that draws in women who might otherwise avoid political spaces, introduce issues through a values-driven lens, and help translate those values into policy engagement and practical action.

We do this through conferences, workshops, panels, and networking events that connect women across sectors — from business and energy to education and community leadership — and equip them with the tools, confidence, and connections to make an impact where it matters most.

Our mission is simple:

To help women step confidently into civic and political spaces — not by preaching partisanship, but by connecting everyday issues to enduring principles.

2025: Proof of Concept

In September 2025, we hosted the inaugural Doing It Right Women’s Conference in Calgary.

  • 160+ women attended — from business, energy, education, and public service

  • 40+ students participated through sponsorships

  • Full event costs covered by sponsors (break-even model)

  • Panels were multi-partisan, bridging topics like business, family, and leadership with policy and politics

  • Feedback was overwhelmingly positive — women want to engage, but not be told who to support

The success of this event confirmed what we already knew:

There is an appetite for values-based, respectful, and practical engagement among women who feel alienated by polarization and ideology.

Vision for 2026 and Beyond

We want to grow Doing It Right from a single conference into a national movement for women’s civic engagement.

Our next phase includes:

1. Events & Engagement

  • Annual Doing It Right Conference in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba

  • Regional luncheons, panels, and networking events across western Canada

  • Each event features speakers from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives — business, energy, education, community leadership, policy, and media — illustrating how diverse experiences intersect with shared civic values

  • Election-season debates and town halls, moderated through a values-based lens

  • Policy and issue forums linking women’s lived experiences to topics like affordability, energy, and family

2. Media & Advocacy

  • Launching the Doing It Right Podcast, featuring conversations with women leaders, business owners, and policy thinkers

  • Producing short-form video, editorial, and social content connecting personal stories to public issues

  • Growing a digital community that reaches women where they are — and gradually draws them deeper into issue-based advocacy and civic participation

  • Regular contributions to alternative media (Western Standard show opportunity; regular op-eds welcomed at a number of outlets)

3. Leadership & Training

Building on the success of our conference and community events, Doing It Right is launching a hands-on training and activation program designed to help women turn curiosity into action.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Volunteer on campaigns and understand the behind-the-scenes mechanics of elections

  • Work within campaigns or constituency offices, contributing to communications, research, or outreach

  • Run for office, with practical guidance on public speaking, fundraising, and strategy

  • Engage elected officials and party representatives effectively to advocate for better policy on key issues

4. Research & Storytelling

We’ll continue to build a strong evidence and narrative base for this work by:

  • Conducting research into women’s civic engagement trends, particularly in Western Canada

  • Producing thought leadership pieces and op-eds reframing energy, affordability, and freedom as women’s issues

  • Partnering with organizations in the business and policy space to amplify women’s voices and stories

Our Guiding Principles

At its core, Doing It Right champions the timeless ideas that underpin a free and flourishing society:

  • Freedom: Individual liberty and free expression are non-negotiable foundations of democracy.

  • Prosperity: A strong economy enables families to thrive and communities to flourish.

  • Responsibility: Personal and civic responsibility sustain the institutions that make freedom possible.

  • Small Government: The best solutions often start in our communities, not our bureaucracies.
